GOALS
What is GOALS?
GOALS is a powerful motivational programme, with a strong employability focus, that teaches participants easy tailor-made techniques for sustainably raising their self-esteem and increasing resilience alongside practical help getting back into work, education or training. A brief, CBT based intervention and accredited by the Open College Network, GOALS places its primary focus on self-esteem, and looks at many things that influence self-concept such as self-talk, encouraging the participants to think positively about themselves, to identify personal values, set a personal vision and then set clear employment goals and objectives that they can aspire to and achieve realistically. In essence, it’s about getting more of what you want out of life!
What is it like to experience GOALS Training?
Ciara, Rural Development Officer at Northern Ireland Rural Women’s Network NIRWN, shares her experiences of seeing others participate in GOALS Training and her own story of completing the programme.
What people have to say about Goals
“I found it a very practical, well founded programme with CBT and NLP elements integrated making it almost into an intensive counselling process for ‘getting more of what you want out of life’ The feedback from those who have participated with the GOALS training has been consistently positive. For our clients in particular, the GOALS programme has, as some have said in post-programme evaluations, been ‘life-changing’! Providing our clients with insight , internal motivation and engagement, GOALS tackles the major barriers our clients face and will form a key thread throughout many of our labour market programmes and community supports going forward.”
— Breda Stewart, Employability Manager from Offaly LDC
“I found the course offered the young people clear straightforward pointers to looking at their self-limiting beliefs and behaviours. The practical experiential activities embedded in the curriculum provided an interactive and incremental learning experience unique to each individual’s participation, which allowed the young people to create effective solutions to the pertinent issues in their lives which they themselves had identified through the course.”
— Paula Shields from Belfast Unemployed Resource Centre
“I have worked in the civil service for over 32 years and GOALS is the most effective way of working with people that I have ever experienced.”
— Lauren Kilby, OBE JCP Essex
